A Japanese woman has been brutally stabbed to death in Tokyo while thousands watched her live-streaming herself walking through the streets.

The tragic incident took place at 9.50am local time today in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district, near the Takadanobaba railway station

The woman, said to be in her 20s, was filming herself on live-streaming channel  WhoWatch when she was randomly attacked by a man, who stabbed her in the neck, head and chest.

She was taken to hospital, but later died from her injuries.

Approximately 6,500 fans witnessed the knife attack.

Viewers described how the woman was heard screaming in the middle of the broadcast, prompting messages from concerned fans.

A taxi driver who witnessed the horrific stabbing told Japan Times that he saw the attacker ‘filming the woman’ and ‘kicking her head’ as she lay on the ground.

Police recovered a knife with a blade about 5 inches long, believed to be the murder weapon.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and charged with murder.

The man reportedly told investigators that he had no intention of killing the woman.

Police are currently examining the suspect’s mental state and motive, according to the Japan Times.

A video of the aftermath of the assault shows emergency services at the scene as they tend to the victim as police sirens blare in the background.

Japanese police have not yet disclosed the woman’s identity, but several people on social media pointed out that the victim was 22-year-old live broadcaster Mogami Ai.

However, the voice actor company that represents Mogami later issued a statement that the broadcaster had nothing to do with the tragic incident.

‘In the incident that occurred in Takadanobaba today… erroneous information was spread, and our company’s ‘Mogami Ai’ was mistakenly identified. We have confirmed that this misunderstanding exists’, the company said in a statement.

‘Here, we express our condolences to the parties involved in the incident, and at the same time, we confirm the safety of our company’s ‘Mogami Ai’ and hereby declare that our company’s ‘Mogami Ai’ has nothing to do with the incident.

‘We would like to express our sincere apologies for the concerns and troubles caused to the relevant parties due to this misunderstanding.

‘In addition, we found that the social media account of ‘Mogami Ai’ has received comments and private messages related to the incident, and her photos have been reprinted without authorization.

‘Since ‘Mogami Aii’ has nothing to do with the incident, we kindly ask everyone to avoid posting excessive comments or private messages on his social media, and do not reprint his photos without permission’, the company said.

The tragedy comes months after a knifeman stabbed a well-known Islam critic at an anti-Islam rally in Germany amid a frenzied attack that was livestreamed on YouTube.

The shocking spree unfolded in Mannheim city centre on May 31 where anti-Islam campaigner Michael Stuerzenberger was speaking at an event of the Citizens’ Movement Pax Europa (BPE) – a group that advocates against the ‘Islamisation’ of Europe.

Chaos broke out at the event when a man dressed in a dark hooded jacket, green shirt and tracksuit bottoms tackled Stuerzenberger to the ground and violently swung a large blade at him, prompting terrified screams from onlookers.

Other BPE members sprinted over and tried to drag the knifeman away, but the would-be killer wriggled free and dove on top of the bloodied victim to plunge the weapon in for a second time.

His colleagues were heard screaming ‘throw the knife away!’ – but with the knifeman not responding to any orders the officers opened fire from near point blank range and sent him crashing to the ground.

The attacker and his victims were rushed to hospital, while the shocking incident was quickly labelled a terror attack by the BPE.

The horrific attack was captured in its entirety by a cameraman who was livestreaming the event on the BPE’s YouTube page.

The stream was quickly taken down but it concluded with paramedics arriving on scene to administer vital first aid to at least three victims who had collapsed to the floor.
