The new National Children’s Hospital will not open until the end of June 2026 at least.

This is the fifteenth time that the long -awaited project is late.

The hospital will not be delivered until the end of September, and at least nine other months will take it before it is ready for patients.

The potential costs of the hospital continue to climb with the BAM contractors submit more than 850 million euros in claims so far.

David Goning of the National Hospital Development Board of Children’s Hospital, insists that not only signing empty checks.

He was answering questions from Sinn Féin’s Cathy Bennet:

“There will be 6000 rooms in the new children’s hospital and most diagnostic equipment is already.

“But it is still not ready and with its delay already 15 times – the sixteenth time is very possible.”

Sinn Féin’s Pearse Doherty criticizes the last delay.

“15 times, like this crazy. Crazy, because the children are right, they are waiting for this hospital,” he said.

“We know it is fine, but not only the deadline has not been missed 15 times, but this project has gone from 650 million euros to 2.2 billion euros, and we are not sure that this final cost.”

In February, the Minister of Health said that she expected the final cost of the new hospital “close to” 2.24 billion euros and that the additional claims made by the construction PAM have not been decided yet.

At that point, Jennifer Carroll McKenil said only 48 million euros from 853 million euros had been claiming to have been approved.
