Skype was launched again in 2003 and it was a big name in the world of chat and messages.

At its peak, the service had more than 300 million active monthly users.

But its popularity declined in recent years, as it decreased to about 23 million in 2020.

Microsoft – which bought the application in 2011 – pumped a lot of its focus on the other correspondence platform, Microsoft Teams.

Skype users have been informed that they have the option to move to free Microsoft teams instead of “many basic features themselves.”

Those who want to move online can log in to the free Microsoft Teams app with login details to Skype – all contacts and chats will be transferred automatically.

Instead, users can download their precious chat data.

But failure to do them before January 2026 and will be permanently deleted.

“If you don’t take any action, your Skype data will be deleted in January 2026,” said Microsoft.

Therefore, it is useful to download any data or transfer through it now before forgetting it and losing the data.

Early Skype ads reveal the “magic” of the application where Microsoft returns to its closure forever

“Skype was running many businesses, going to me, and kept me in contact with thousands of Poepe” one of the users wrote on Reddit in response to the Skype closing advertisement earlier this year.

“We will miss you.”

But others were less sad, “good heating.”

However, a small part of Skype will live.

Skype for Business will continue at the moment – although Microsoft is likely to try to move to a difference in the future.

Remember chat apps yesterday

Skype is the latest victim in a long line of old school chat applications to provide farewell.

Many will remember the days of MSN Messenger – which Microsoft closed exciting in 2013, to be replaced by Skype.

But there were many others who were no longer present today.

AIM was the famous AOL correspondent application on the PC in the late 1990s, before it was suspended in 2017.

Even during the era of mobile phones, we had BBM on BlackBerrys, which was no longer with us.
