The coffin that holds Pope Francis from Casa Santa Marta, the building where he died, will be taken to the Church of St. Peter at nine in the morning local time (8 am GMT).
There, the public will be able to pay their respect for three days from 11 am local time (10 am GMT).
Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camelingo from the Church, will lead a prayer before the transfer of Francis.
He will say: “Dear brothers and sisters, with deep sadness, we are now accompanying the deadly residues of Pope Francis to the Vatican Bazilica,” he will say at the beginning of the service.
“While we are now leaving his house, let’s thank the Lord for the endless gifts that he gave to the Christian people through his servant, Pope Francis.
“Let’s ask him, with his mercy and kindness, to give the late Pope an eternal house in the kingdom of heaven, rest with the heavenly hope of the papal family, the church in Rome and the believers all over the world.”
