Sean O’Neil, a senior office official, traveled to Vietnam, April 16-20. His visit is part of a year’s celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of the creation of relations between the United States and Vietnam.
In Hanoi, O’Neill met the prominent official of the office with Vietnamese officials to discuss a set of topics covered by the comprehensive strategic partnership of the United States (CSP). These included ways to enhance our economic cooperation and address commercial imbalances. They also discussed cooperation to address regional and global challenges in peace, prosperity and security, especially the importance of resolving conflicts safely in accordance with international law and respecting the freedoms of navigation and development in the South China Sea and other places. A senior official of the office and its counterparts spoke about the fight against illegal immigration, the trafficking of people, the Cyberscam, and other national crimes that affect the Americans, Vietnamese and the region.
The older office official also noticed the efforts of the Dioxin in Bien Hoa Air Base, a joint venture between the United States and Vietnam that highlights our strong bilateral cooperation to address the heritage of war.
