Today, Foreign Minister Marco Rubio met the heads of the government from the Eastern Caribbean and the Baham Islands to emphasize the urgent need to enhance regional cooperation to combat drug trafficking, firearms and illegal immigration – the main motives for violence and instability. The Caribbean partners encouraged the exchange of intelligence, security cooperation and border security through initiatives such as the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative.
Secretary Rubio urged our partners to make responsible and transparent decisions when selecting sellers and contractors for critical infrastructure projects, which ensures that they are not vulnerable to the risks of privacy, security and exploitation by malicious actors such as the Chinese Communist Party. He also reaffirmed our commitment to the responsibility of the officials of the Cuban system, officials, foreign government officials, and participants in facilitating the forced work system of the system, including medical missions in Cuba.
With the hurricane season less than one month, Minister Rubio announced the re -revitalization of two programs by the United States to enhance early warning systems and provide rapid life -saving assistance throughout the Caribbean.
