To catch you up:

• Carson Soucy is now a New York Ranger. The Canucks looked at their young defenceman and decided Soucy’s role going forward would be diminished.

• Brock Boeser is, in theory anyway, a big trade chip. Is he the consolation prize in the Mikko Rantanen sweepstakes?

We’ll update as we can here.

8:45 a.m.

Former Canuck Anthony Beauvillier is now a Washington Capital.

That in itself isn’t that interesting: this is Beauvillier’s sixth team in two calendar years. The price paid matters though: a second-round pick. “Beauvillier is scoring relatively the same as Nyquist, and cost the same after Nashville retained on Nyquist,” a league source pointed out to me.

If those guys, depth forwards, are worth a second, what is Boeser worth?
