“My boy, I did almost really stupid,” I found myself when I recorded my computer one day last week.
I thought about all the people you have read or heard about those who fall for the serious fraud or the person who goes to something like, “We are the FBI, your account has been hacked. Pulling the rest of your money, put it in a shoe box, and we will come, get it and keep it safe for you.”
How no one heard about this fraud, I wondered. They are all over the news. After that, I also fell to one – a fake job show.
I did not read much about employment fraud because, stupidly, I never thought that I was facing one. I just wanted a customer or two parts part -time for my independent writing work, and the Job Council often had some possibilities. Also, I had just deleted two professional jobs early to shave a few years of my life after I saw the proposal in a magazine. So when I mixed the topic lines in my e -mail on that morning and saw a positive email about the position, my only idea was that reviewing my CV had succeeded. And soon!
I received confirmation messages whenever I applied to the vehicles, so I did not pay great attention to the topic line until I realized – I thought – it was an actual company returning to me. I was looking for part -time editing functions and correcting them, and Vola! The healthcare company was interested in my qualifications and only wanted to conduct the assembly correction test.
The name of the work used was the name of an actual company, but I applied to many health systems during the previous months that I did not think about verifying job addresses in the company or email addresses, for example. I was tired of searching for work, so I was working in multiple tasks that morning and not sufficient attention.
When I opened the job email, I met “Caroline”, a human resource that gave me the test and said she wanted to meet the difference. Do not rang warnings. I use the difference all the time. I was testing, and later that afternoon, I returned to me and informed that I had passed flying colors. I did not find it difficult like another health system – which I did not insist. Most of the questions were general and easy, such as, “Why are the correction of experiences to be important when it comes to health system materials?” I convinced myself that this was a good question, like the company that may have wanted to know if the candidates realized that patients might read life -threatening medical trends, for example.
Then the human resources woman started more information, including the company’s culture and benefits, and even sent me information about the latter and asked me to sign the form to indicate that I read it and then sent it again. I sent it, but not before I wondered her in a full -time work statement, to remind her that I also wanted to announce the part -time role. I asked to see the job published again – I couldn’t find it already – she had been lowered. After that, I realized that there was likely that there was no job job in this fraudulent position.
“On the full -time reference … everyone must work on employees during the first three months,” she said.
“Then, you can request a different arrangement. You will also start with five days of training, driven, of course,” she added.
After that, she returned to publishing information, like how my task skills are perfectly suitable and that she would provide me with the supervisor who we told him before completing this. She praised my experience again, and complained to my husband that the operation was taking a long time. He asked, “Are you sure that it is not a fraud?” I fired at a look and this means that I was very smart to fall for it.
On the second day of my country on the plane, I asked the woman if I had a specific Mac model, with very specific specifications, and at least six types of programs that I will use.
“No”, I told her, and she raised her. “I don’t think the mission is for me. I do not use the Mac, and I do not know how, and I am not aware of any of the programs I mentioned.”
“This is good,” she replied. “You will learn everything in training. You may want to look at some tonight tools before tomorrow’s training.”
“Wow, start immediately?” I wondered. I was not crazy.
“Now, we will send you the sellers all this, and we will send you a check to pay them,” Caroline wrote.
Bengo. This is the distinctive feature of many fraud.
Now everything fell in place. I came back and examined the email that wrote to me several times: caroline@healthcarecompanys.com. (I changed the actual name of the company.) The United States was ultimately a great idea that this was a fraud. Then she looked closely at her name and the name of the supposed supervisor. Caroline Brown and Linda Smith. Another big mistake on their part, using such general names (except if you are heedless, like me). Their names were not registered at the beginning. My stomach decreased. I reviewed LinkedIn.
“Ah, Caroline, neither you nor Linda on LinkedIn,” she boycotted.
It took a minute to answer. “Oh, I wiped everything from LinkedIn when my husband died,” she said.
“No … Any human resource and supervisor of a large health company will get a profile on LinkedIn,” I answered, I told her that I was on it. I stopped communicating with her after that.
At this point, the rules changed in her text messages and took over a poor English. The new deception offered me a $ 600 signing bonus, and said I was receiving an email the next morning with information about the items that I will receive with strict instructions on how to deposit Paycheque to pay for it. “Paycheque” to pay the price of the elements. I deleted everything related to fraud, starting with what they said is the account of their teams.
I have broken some of the basic rules that I will find on the Internet about fraud in employment and some of them realized myself. Few of these:
- Do not meet in teams, in a chat room, or the like. Get a good phone number for the company.
- Make sure to see the face of the employment director, talk to the person and listen to their voice.
- Check the person’s profile on LinkedIn.
- Do not give banking or other personal information until it goes in the recruitment process and makes sense to do so.
- Be careful of excessive praise.
- Never accept a check to pay for the elements you need to get a job.
- If there is something strange, trust your bumps.
I have sent media relationships at Real Health Care as well as an executive director and found it on LinkedIn. I thought they might want to know these people and take them more, if possible. No one was written again. I have already contacted, and an employee has sent me there via email and made suggestions. The person who has emerged is to contact the police if you lose money. Thank God I did not. As far as my ego’s bruises, I can take condolences to it.
These fraudsters prepared them for the best two days. I can calculate more red flags in our conversations, but I prefer not to reformulate everything else I neglected. It is embarrassing. For example, remember the “invitation of the job” topic that you already mentioned? It seems that I remember an exclamation sign at the end of an “invitation”. What is the actual company that will include an exclamation mark in such a message or even use this phrase? I can’t believe that I was superior to it. Any mail should be from the actual health care company.
I try not to overcome myself a lot for this incident. I am an ideal example of how people can be at risk in this economy, especially if they are in a quickly decreased field (such as journalism or mines) or if they are in an era they are concerned about age discrimination.
However, I admitted, I felt stupid after escaping from the artists. At first I thought I could not tell anyone about what I did, and I was sure I didn’t want to write about it. Then I gave care to the wind and thought, “What happened. It happened, and I learned many lessons (such as paying more attention when it comes to hunting jobs – DUH).
Because of my experience, I am a little more modest about the evidence, “Everyone makes mistakes.” Now that I have entered into the shoes of the arrested jobs, or were almost arrested, in a deceitful network, I better understand how someone can walk in this path, along with the reasons that I have already included. The desire to work at home – or to continue working at home when companies return to people to the office – can be a great head. Or certainly there are a large number of people who give anything to possess their own business or be their own president, as some of the fraudsters announce. People who find themselves in such a situation are not stupid. They are a human being, with human desires that have great clouds. My story may help to know this as well.
