Highway 99 southbound is closed and traffic is blocked in both directions following a multi-vehicle incident near Whistler, DriveBC said Wednesday morning.

DriveBC said the incident occurred between Callaghan Valley Road and Brew Creek Forest Service Road near the “Welcome to Whistler” sign.

RCMP said officers are currently on scene at the collision, which happened just before 9 a.m. PT.

“The current weather is contributing to poor road conditions, and due to both the road conditions and Highway 99 being closed in both directions, we are advising people not to travel in the area at this time,” Cpl. Katrina Boehmer said in a news release.

“There will be extensive delays until the investigation can be completed and the road can be re-opened.”

The RCMP said there is no estimate on when the highway will reopen and that it will keep the public notified.

CBC News has reached out to police and B.C. Emergency Health Services about whether there are injuries, but has not yet heard back.
