The Special Judges Award went to Robert Fisk (also from the Daily Express newspaper), which included an investigation into the “witch of doctors” who imagined cancer patients with vibrant diseases among the thousands with false treatments.
Among the other winners were a long writer of the year Andrew Barsley to work, including the investigation of the dilapidated justice system in Manchester (literally) and the winner of the rising superstar Emily Ferguson from Express, for her exclusive interview with the Duchess of Sophie and Edwards in which they spoke with the secrets of a successful royal marriage.

David Hegerson, the digital publisher, said: “With thousands of journalists and a 24 -hour operation that extends on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, we sometimes forget to stop work and get to know the amazing work our journalists do every day.
“These prizes are the celebration and thanks to these journalists and the teams, for everything from the big stories that determine the agenda to the important work behind the scenes, to the front pages, photographs, and sound/video works that have an effect that exceeds words.”
