This is the first public hearing invited by the Police Complaints Commissioner since the province amended the police law, which allowed their office to contact the listening sessions early in the discipline.

In a statement, OPCC said the Police Complaint Commissioner, Rabu Rajan, decided the nature of allegations and that the public interest supported the need for a hearing.

The office says that the commissioner indicated that the use of imbalance in power for a sexual purpose does not only harm those affected directly, but also negatively affects the safety of the police and the public’s confidence in the police.
