US President Donald Trump has restored trade tensions on Friday, threatening a 50 % tariff for all goods sent to the United States from the European Union.

He also threatened to impose an import tax by at least 25 % on the iPhone devices that were not manufactured in America.

The warning against the European Union just came hours before the two sides were appointed to hold commercial talks. Trump announced last month a 20 % tariff for most European Union commodities, but it has passed by half to 10 % until July 8 to allow time to conversations.

“Our discussions with them do not go anywhere!” Trump wrote in a post on social media on Friday. He said he recommends new tariffs on June 1.

In comments to reporters at the White House at a later time, Trump said his plan had been set.

He said: “I am not looking for a deal – we put the deal,” before adding that the large investment in the United States by a European company may make it open to delay.

The European Union did not immediately respond to the threat. Politicians received the members of the bloc with dismay, but they said they did not expect to change the strategy.

“We maintain the same line: not escalate, but we are ready to respond.”

Analysts said that he continued to see whether the speech would turn into a reality.

“We have to keep in mind that at this stage, this is a threat. It is not an advertisement. There is no executive order,” Trade expert Berg of the European Reform Center told the BBC.

He believed that Trump’s publication was aimed at increasing the leverage before negotiations.

“But the fact of the matter is that the European Union will not budge. They will remain calm, continue and will be a very difficult discussion this afternoon.”

Since the re -introduction of the White House, Trump has imposed and threatened many customs tariffs on goods from countries all over the world, on the pretext that policies will enhance our manufacture and protect jobs from foreign competition.

The tariff is an imposed tax on goods when it enters a country. Ads have sparked fears worldwide, as they will make them more expensive and difficult for foreign companies to sell goods in the world’s largest economy.

But Trump has also retracted some of his most aggressive proposals after financial market disturbances and business screams in the United States.

The shares in the United States and the European Union fell on Friday after the recent threats, as the S&P 500 index fell about 1 %, Dax and France Cac 40 ending today with more than 1.5 %.

Apple stocks, which won comfort last month when Trump exempt the main electronics, including smartphones From definitions, about 2.7 % decreased.

The officials at that time warned that it would be temporary. Speaking to reporters later on Friday, Trump said he did not intend to get Apple, but he planned to implement the duties of all smartphones, which could start by the end of June.

“rake”

The European Union is one of the largest commercial partners in the United States, sending more than 600 billion dollars from goods to the United States last year and buying about 370 billion dollars, according to US government figures.

Trump’s complaints about Europe focused on this unequal commercial relationship, as the European Union sells more commodities to the United States, which it bought from America.

He blames this trade deficit on the policies that he says is unfair to American companies, and has specifically raised concerns about policies related to cars and agricultural products.

He targeted goods from the European Union with a 20 % tariff in its declaration called liberation on last month, which started a wave of negotiations between the United States and countries around the world.

While some countries, especially the smallest, have followed a reconciliation approach, the European Union, such as China and Canada, has pushed more strongly against threats, saying it is ready to take revenge by raising its own tariff for American products.

On Friday, Trump said that the European Union was “very difficult to deal with”, with his repeated criticism that the bloc was formed “for a basic purpose of benefiting from the United States” on trade.

“Our discussions with them do not go anywhere! Therefore, I recommend a 50 % straight tariff for the European Union, starting from June 1, 2025,” he added.

Speaking to Fox News on Friday, US Treasury Secretary Scott Beesen said that the United States wanted to see more concessions from Europe.

“I think the president believes that the European Union’s proposals were not of the same quality that we saw from our other important commercial partners,” he said.

“I hope this fire will shine under the European Union,” he added.

European reaction

Taoiseach Micheál Martin said in Ireland that the European Union was participating in “goodwill” and warned that the customs tariff would be harmful to both sides.

“We do not need to walk on this way,” he said. “The negotiations are the best and the only sustainable forward.”

Dutch Prime Minister Dick Show said that the European Union “will” adhere to the path “he chose.

“At the same time, we will see how negotiations will continue after today’s announcement. We have seen before that the customs tariff can rise and go down in talks with the United States.”

German Economy Minister Catherina Reish said her country needs “more trade, not less.”

“We must do everything to ensure the European Commission reaching negotiations with the United States,” she said.

Trump has presented with the customs tariffs, despite the widespread anxiety among experts that new taxes will lead to economic damage while only doing little to achieve his goals.

On Friday, Dan IVES, a playbush security analyst, said that the idea that Apple will make iPhone in the United States “a fairy tale is not possible.”

He added that Apple is expected to continue to move in this situation, despite the last attack by Trump, who has long authorized the company as those that it wants to see manufacturing in the United States.

Trump met with Apple CEO Tim Cook at the White House earlier this week, after expressing misery about the company’s response to the definitions.

Earlier this month, the company said it was Change the production of most iPhone devices and other estimated devices for sale in the United States away from ChinaBut towards countries like India and Vietnam, instead of the United States.

Trump said earlier this month that he suffers from a “small problem” with Mr. Cook, and warned him: “I don’t want you to build in India.”
