Foreign Minister Marco Rubio spoke today with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Isaac Dar. Secretary Rubio thanked Pakistan for his arrest and transfer to the United States from ISIS, Muhammad Sharif Allah, and the Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of continuous cooperation in combating terrorism.

Secretary Rubio also stressed the importance of Pakistan’s cooperation on law enforcement and treatment of illegal immigration. We discussed the mutual definitions in Pakistan and how to make progress towards a fair and balanced trade relationship. The Secretary raised the possibilities of participating in critical minerals and expressed interest in expanding commercial opportunities for American companies.

The Secretary and the Deputy Prime Minister are looking to work together to face global challenges during the two -year period of Pakistan as a non -permanent member of the United Nations Security Council that started on January 1.
